Once upon a time, I was granted the honor of writing the first Next Generation hardcover. I wanted it to cut deep into Picard’s personal continuity so I put him together again with the officers of his first command, The Stargazer, in a book called Reunion. Readers seemed to like the characters, so Pocket (as well as DC Comics) allowed me to write additional stories about the crew of  The Stargazer. Finally, we created a six-book Stargazer series that included new characters like Cole Paris (yup, a relative of you-know-who) and a gaseous being named Jiterica who has to wear a containment suit aboard ship, not to mention a much younger Jean-Luc Picard — with hair.

Some day, when there’s an opening in the Pocket publishing schedule, I’ll lobby to resurrect the series. Stay tuned…
